Good God, I can read that two different ways.
One, J.J Jr was Theo's lover/ companion. And Tony's jealous (as George surmised)
Two, It is a reference to J.J being Theo's repacement. He should be remembered with a better repacement the a fuck-up like J.J. I think this theory has merit for the simple reason that rape is not about sex. It is about control, power, domination. Tony Ray is exerting power over J.J, perhaps punishing him for not being worthy.

OK, somebody fill me in. I though they called Theo 'Shorty' because he was going home soon, in military jargon he is 'short'.
