Very nice sequence of Rita's face. Looking around, hearing something, alarmed, yet still not suspicious enough. Alive. Quite unlike that image of her in the water, which seems oddly frozen.

Poor Rita. She so much wanted her boogieman to be there. Mulefoot captured that just right with Rita looking about so keyed up and over-reactive on those four close-ups. You can almost hear her thinking "that bastard will pay and everything will be okay again."

Halbherz had it said right, Rita looks frozen but not just in the water. Rita has never moved past her sister's death and suffers the triple crown of tragedy survivors: angry, aching, and alone. She stands still for that event while the killer and the rest of the uncaring world past her by. All we've seen of Rita is the evidence of her modeling a strong male and her focus on preparing for a moment long since gone that was never hers to begin with.

Was she training for this moment in the woods or was she training to show others to defend themselves? I think to split the difference of her reasons and add in guilt - she trains other women as a proxy for how she should have trained her sis. Rita is neither ready to hunt a killer nor is she satisfied with training others to prevent what happened to her sibling a decade prior. Rita can't seem to prevent her past from dictating her future even though she now seems to want to find some way out of the never ending loop her life has been. Now here she is in the woods at night looking to find some semblance of the word closure with the only person in the world that participates in her ritual of stagnation.

Poor Rita.

On a side note...

Earlier I was listening to Patsy Cline "I Fall to Pieces" and, you know what, for some reason, I was struck with the thought: If Tony does kill Rita, this song will be playing in my mind in the background as I read about it.

And that felt like it was just right.
