They're not friends, or at least Mulefoot doesn't think so. He introduced himself as Tony. It's not something he'd think about but it shows part of thier relationship. It was also just Tony, so Sam is someone he can call out of the blue years later and not worry about him wondering 'Which Tony?'.
Sam is a nickname I don't think many people get to use. He can also use insults like 'Rooter' without giving offense. 'He's allowed'.
Who is Ridge?
And last, 'Friends help you move, but good friends help you move bodies.' Do you think Sam will ask Mulefoot to come on over to help?
Happy Holidays everyone.
Me thinks it goes back deeper than that. But first.... Ridge is Sam's last name. Cooper is the "other guy" whom we haven't seen yet.
As to moving bodies, I suspect that what ever business Sam is in, and remember, a glimpse of that was kidnapping and delivering who they thought was Brice, dead to the girl's father. Not exactly a mainstream job. Such as it is, I think Sam is perfectly capable of dealing with getting rid of a body without Tony Ray's help.
Now as to the relationship between Tony Ray and Sam.... Look at the business card, "Retrieval and Courier Service." Personally I'd say Sam's a bounty hunter and working far outside of the 'normal" rules for such. And Tony Ray has his business card so he obviously knows who he is and what he does. Based (again) on thier chance meeting in that shit hole bar down in Lockheart, I'd say at some time they probably worked together.
One last thought on all this, Sam seemed noticeably upset "Now is NOT a good time" on the phone, perhaps he has just dissolved the partnership of Cooper and Ridge?
Time will tell.
