I got to think Le Artiste has been hanging around the Atlanta University Center before he did the last page. The kids have scooters EVERYwhere, like flies around a turd they are. Everything from really cheeep Heatrhen Chinee 50cc smoky little things to fairly nice (expensive) Honda automatics and everything in between. I walked three blocks down to the student lunch strip (Broad Street) today and counted twenty five of them parked on the way one place and another. And it was a grey drizzly day. sunshine would have way more.

I saw much the same thing when last I was in Hawaii but it was tourist rentals. I'd overhear some of the local taxicab drivers darkly muttering their wishes to just run them over. I think what made it worse was the tendency of the scooters to drive in loosely straggled packs of poorly skilled riders. Just being a pedestrian observer, I agreed with the locals... the part about how annoying the yahoos on the scooters were, not the wish to bumper-bounce them.

Mate and I did the Big Island for a week a while back (won a contest) and it included a car rental. Nearly aced out several scooters.
And the only time I rented one was back in The Day when Ft Lauderdale was The Place To Go on spring break. Ran over a cop's foot with it. Long line of traffic on the beach. He's like "HAY BOY COME BACK HERE" and I'm like gun it down the other side of the line :) Anybody could run like that and yell at the same time wasn't hurt badly. He wasn't up to scooter speed.
