Holy crap! I had forgotten bout the fox holding the shotgun in that one panel. I never made the connection that that was Brice. Sure does look like him, right down to the way he wore his hair/headfur back then. If that is him holding a gun on Tony but not pulling the trigger, that opens up a whole new can of worms.
Did the stranger that stumbled across Tony and Brice hold Tony at gunpoint and force him to let Brice loose? Did he then give Brice the gun to let him have revenge but Brice couldn't pull the trigger? Maybe the stranger tried to take the gun back and do it himself but Brice wouldn't let him and then Tony saw his chance and attacked them during the scuffle. Could be that's when Brice got away while the stranger met his fate at the river.
Or maybe Tony seemed to run away when he was discovered then attacked the newcomer while he was busy untying Brice. Caught up with dealing with the stranger, he didn't notice Brice was loose and had the shotgun till it was pointed at him. That seems kind of "sloppy" of Tony... but it wouldn't be the first time one of his victims got away. Seems like he was certain he had left one for dead, even carved his signature into her hide, but she's still out there and driven mad by what was done to her.
