Ouch. Broken coastal cartialage and a straight arm-bar.

Goodbye, shoulder.

By the way, what's up with the bracer on the bear's right arm? One moment it was there, one moment it wasn't, and, in the current panel, it was absent entirely.

That brace--that's what we call a continuity error. *giggleS*
I'll have to go back and fix that.

Considering how difficult it is to break a human's sternum bone Tony has to be one strong son of a bitch to do that to a potentially hardier ursine anthropomorph. Though, personally, I'd be far more worried about that punch to the throat since it takes a much lower degree of force to crush the cartilage of the trachea, which is a mortal injury. Considering that it looked like Cucuy coughed out blood in the panel with the throat strike, I don't think he is breathing any longer.

Ah, but it is disabling. It's hard to draw breath with your diaphram spasming. The punch to the throat may have killed the bear; he just might not know it yet. The crunch, could be so many evil things. I'm betting the elbow at least.

Let this be a lesson for Slopites. In a fight, don't pose.

While Tony said he was aiming for the sternum, that isn't quite what he hit.
He hit the equivalent of the bear's zyphoid process. That's a little point of bone at the bottom of your sternum. That piece of bone is much easier to break. It happens during CPR sometimes.

So why didn't I say Zyphoid Process?
I only had so much space and while everyone knows what the sternum is, I didn't have the space to explain what the zyphoid process was.

If I had drawn it differently, you would have seen a lil box that said, "Ah was aimin' for his zyphoid process--that lil point of bone some folks got in their solar plexus. "

That same line would have slowed the action down a great deal.

Still, I'm pleased with how the page came out.

The very last frame says it all, the wide-eye look of realization that something has gone terribly-terribly wrong and now he's only along for the ride as Tony goes to town with a lack of self-control. The worst is yet to come.

I was wondering about the zyphoid process. If his zyphoid process has been broken then he also probably has a perforated diaphragm, in which case we're about to see what he ate a little while ago, when it goes into racking spasms.

You know much as I hate bullies and blowhards, I feel sorry for that bear. After the blows to the "sternum" and throat, it owuld have been kind to let him die (or go to the hospital) in peace. But Tony Ray is not in a kind frame of mind. :)

Yeah, I sort of agree with Havoc, Muley's "red-mist" kind of came out of nowhere, being drunk and idly wondering about the hippy girl and all... But all said and done, it IS Mulefoot I'm talking about, so I guess his mist is never far away...
