Though I can see how it would be taken that way, I don't think Halbherz was making a verbal attack against you or what you said, Abraxus. From the way it was written, Halbherz was making his statement against a rather extreme form of vegetarianism and the abstracted response by that ideology if it were to be in this post. In other words, I think Halbherz is voicing his opposition to the idea of militant veganism.

Abraxus, in saying that you "foresaw" these comments I think you may have set yourself up to be expecting an attack. In a pattern of guilt by association, many vegetarians have been scorned for the actions of some vegetarians who espouse moral superiority and forced conversion of others. I think that the pattern may have made you more defensive and less discriminating with others after airing this trait. Did you allow for a different meaning from the words you read? Try giving the words a voice and lilt that is different than how you first read it. The voice I think fits the words best is cynical amusement. However, I can't be sure what Halbherz meant until he says exactly how he wants his words to be taken, hence my first statement about the major drawback. But it is because of this drawback that I give the favorable benefit of the doubt to another forumite when I read these posts.

Great. Now when I read these posts I hear Mickey Mouse's voice. Granted, it's funny "hearing" Mickey say "of course vegetables grow in shit" but I'm probably going to be stuck with that for the rest of the day. Just what I need, the attorney getting creeped out because I'm giggling while reading the escrow paperwork

That being said, one "argument" for vegetarianism I highly respect is the state of the livestock industry...

I wish I had the time/resources to hunt/grow meat/eggs/dairy myself, or at the least lived next to someone with good husbandry practices who does. Alas, currently I try to be content with buying organic/free range animal products, when I can find them. :/

Eh... I'm opening a huge can-o-worms here. Bah.

Disclaimer! "Not that I think people who don't buy organic or whatever are bad. This is my personal choice. Nor am I saying that I don't respect other reasons to be veggie. Just that this is the main argument for trying to get other people to be veggie that I, personally, find pursuasive."

When I said "I foresaw these comments", it was a statement inspired by past experiences. Whenever I speak about my dietary choice in a public forum or chat room, people suddenly seem to become intent on chiding me for my personal choices and/or provoking me. I probably shouldn't have mentioned anything, in retrospect. I'm too sensitive about the subject. It's drawn too much heat and I've become embittered.

Totally understood, Abraxus. I have had similar experiences. (For example: My boyfriend's family is hardcore Italian. I'm sure you can imagine how the first family dinner went.)

This annoyances, accusations and suspicions... just think how strange and nasty they get in the SLOPverse. Its not just about simple meat eating versus placid herbivores but all the weird gradients in between. Ol Tony surely was teased about his ability and desire to eat just about anything.

As you've seen in the Red River storyline, rotting meat is in the SLOP diet. Not everyone likes that. Some are downright icked out. Who would eat that? Aside from the British, I mean. *grins*
