Just out of curiosity... I see a lot of interesting avatar artwork and I was wondering.

How much of it is done by the poster using it, or if done by someone else, did you get permission to use it?

For the record, my avatar is from Dracula by Coyote Puck, and I was given permission to use it as an avatar.

And I have a good idea where Mulefoot got his avatar.

My current avatar is a crop, used without permission. I am in the process of trying to get a commission to replace him.

My avatar is an image I created myself, from the paper RPG I'm workin' on...

Fun stuff!

You're missing a couple o' categories: bought/commissioned works and gifts.

Most of my avatars are gifts, a few of them are commissioned, and one was stolen by someone else changed a bit and given to me as a present (I've since discovered the truth and hunted down the original artist for permission (thanks, Flarn)). My favorites are gifts from Foxy Fennec though the full images are, um... unflattering to my macho image, which is why she so enjoys drawing them.

Mulefoot paid to have mine made.

So I thank him again for that. :)

A kid's illustrator did it as a favor. It's a puss 'n' boots of one of my dogs. She gave me noncommercial permission.I own the original

Fooled around with a mobile phone, then jiggled the pixelly result through the digital wash a little. That there that is me.

That's a rare inverted print you have there Muley, best keep it under lock and key as it will probably grow in value.
