Uncle is headed to Texas.

Ah've had it with the left coast. I grew up out here, spent mah whole life out here.

It's gotten too stupid for even me to ignore any more.

Ah found a little town of 2500 people, I bought a general store and a big house.

Ah'll let y'all know when we're all settled in.

Uncle.

Funny you should mention that....

A. I DOES appreciate Tejan chilli.
B. Actually, there's a Starbucks 8 miles up the road in Eastland.

And no, I don't drink StarBucks coffee anyways.

Uncle.

That's one of my plans, along with an off premise liquor license.

Who must you screw for a booze license? CXounty commissioner, or a likker board member? I dunno who has the franchise in Tejas. Can you get a beer license for easy n cheap and sell some Pearl n Lone Star - and a bit of Shiner - while you get the lay of the land for 'spirits'?
I'm pertial to Shiner bock for my Tejas tipple.

Apparently the TABC http://www.tabc.state.tx.us/index.asp

The good news, is that an off premise beer license about $300 for 2 years.

The even better news is that my city is wet, the next one over is dry. ;-)

You're wet, they're dry = license to steal. I had a 'private club' license back home in The day. 'Private Club' meant open 7 days, 24 hours, if you wanted. Open Sunday = license to steal. Membership was conferred upon a majority vote of the members present and voting at the time of application, dues were $2.50, first drink on the house :)

If I hadn't got tired of putting up with drunks for a living, and my partner (family) took The Pleadge, I'd still have it. Truly a license to steal.

I'll be settled in by Thanksgiving.

The packers are boxing up everything now as we speak.
The shop is next month.

We be here.

Ok Muley, I can say it now. "Yehaw!"

I got lights, water, gas and internet. Phone's next on the list, along with fixing a lot of odds and ends wrong with the place. It's not quite "The Haney Place" but it does have a lot of issues.

The moving van should be here today or tomorrow.

Uncle.

It's a tribute to how well this house was constructed, that in the 72 years this house has stood here, the previous owners haven't managed to destroy it.

10' tall, 53' long, I'd let the movers enough room in the back to pile the left over blankets and such (3') I think I broke one of the movers when they unloaded the truck.

The next step is moving the shop from Los Angeles to here. That will probably be another full van. (And another broken mover.)

Whee, moving is such fun.

Someone suggested I'd save a lot of money by using U-Haul instead and doing it myself. Over 450 boxes and another 100+ individual items. No, my plan was moving to Texas, NOT the emergency room. Nor was it making the trip a dozen times and taking a month to move.

I found out, you may of. The cost of moving is putting the shit in boxes. My stuff was such that I hadda box it anyway. Having the mover haul thge boxes and the heavy shit wasn't any more expensive that hioring two day alborers at each end and renting a truck (two trucks)> I boxed, they schlepped the chit, $1500 scoots vs $4500 they make it appear there broken.

Absolute best was when I was In. PCS move. "You the contract mover?" "yeah" "Here's orders and vouchers, there's both addresses, I'll be there tomorrow to watch the packing, book allows you four days, call me when you're headed for the new place, I'll watch the unpacking." "Ok Sarge, thanks".

It is done. Well, almost. I moved the house in September, and was back out in Los Angeles to move the shop in October. I had more stuff than I thought.

1-1/2 53' moving vans. Yeesh. They should be arriving next week. Everything else is out here now. Including Uncle.

Come on Muley, we're waiting for ya.

Uncle.

They arrived. All 38,500 pounds of it.

Well, that's over with. Now I can spend the next two weeks getting the store opened.

When do I get to relax?

Card ever one that comes in your store, tobacco or sauce. Get known as a hardass on age. It ain't worth it. The money goes away with the beer. Best I seen is a tear off calendar with a big Date on it. Covers tobacco and booze wherever you are. Or beer and spirit if theyre different

Person before you needed the ramp?

Need a clerk in yer store?

The only way to deal with age related products. No wiggle. Period.

I'm here and it's snowing. I think it's snow. Back in Los Angeles the only time it looked like it snowed was when the idiots would set a national forest on fire and the cars would be covered with white ash the next morning.

Oh, and merry Christmas, "God bless us each and every one."

Uncle.

I want to leave Ohio.
Instead of spending the day loading my pickup...
I spent the day trying to get it out of two to three feet of snow.

Well despite the delays....we go "live" this coming Wednesday.

Yeah, I sort of missed my target date of November 15th by three months.

Hopefully I *am* going to need help.

Well, we did it.

Opened the doors at 10 AM
Received our initial order of inventory at Noon. (Yeah, two hours after we opened)
The competition across the street closed their doors at 3 PM.

And one of my neighbors dropped in and said, "You want a player piano? It works, $100..."

Oh, and we actually sold some product.

So yeah, I'd say it was a success.

Uncle.
